Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard will not face charges over the discovery of a handgun in his carry-on bag as he entered security at George Bush International airport.

Howard possessed a Glock 26 9mm in the bag as he moved through security on August 28.

According to The Dallas Morning News, a new law which just went into effect provides leeway for concealed carry permit holders who unintentionally bring their gun into an airport in their bag, briefcase, etc. The law allows passengers to “avoid arrest on a third-degree felony charge for bringing a pistol into an so airport’s secure zone…so long as [they] immediately [leave] the area upon being told about the weapon.”

ESPN reports that Howard immediately spoke with law enforcement about the matter and they allowed him to give his gun to associate he carried it out of the airport.

Howard faces no charges.

Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith indicates that finding a gun in a bag now and then “isn’t unusual” and that a total of “77 were discovered in the past year” at Houston’s Bush and William P. Hobby airports.
