ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The 11-year-old boy suspected of gunning down a 16-year-old was pointing the gun at people earlier this week, according to one resident. Police said it appears the 11-year-old was trying to protect his home Thursday afternoon against intruders when the teen was shot and killed.

The 16 year old has been identified as Lamonte Streeter. His grandfather Lynn Hamilton said, “He was very loved, he would do anything in the world for his grandpa, loved his grandma.”

Streeter’s mother, Lawanda Hamilton added, “He was just a fun person. He liked to have fun, he was a good boy, he tried, he really did.”

His young life was cut short Thursday when police said he tried to burglarize the home of the 11 year old who was at home with a four year old sibling. Police said the teen was accompanied by a 22-year-old man. While cops say the 11-year-old was protecting his family’s property; neighbors said the boy called Streeter to his front porch, and shot him. But, detectives say Streeter’s body was found inside the home.

Joshuan Sneed lives across the street, “It should have went a whole other route I think parents could have sat down and talked about issue they had and resolved it before it got to that point because they both were friends.”

One neighbor said the 11-year-old has been a problem for her family. That he’s burglarized their home more than once and was showing the gun to people on both Wednesday and Thursday. Jazmyne Clark said, “He was pointing it at kids in the neighborhood, he was pointing it at everybody who came up on our porch.”

The 11 year’s old mother told police she had the gun because her home had been broken into in the past.

Lamonte’s family says he has had teenage problems but he was trying to turn his life around. Lynn Hamilton added, “It’s a struggle for every teenager nowadays, he still was a good kid. He didn’t deserve to die not like this.”

The 22-year-old was arrested, his case has been taken under advisement by the county prosecutor.

The dead teen’s grandfather says everything being said right now are rumors, he wants to know the truth of exactly what led to his grandson’s death.
